Job description

Description of the vacancy

WHO WE ARE:

AZTI is a science and technology centre that conducts research and change projects in the marine and food fields, to provide products and technologies with a high impact for organisations aligned with the United Nations 2030 SDGs. We are part of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA).

As part of AZTI you'll be part of an agile, dynamic and innovative team firmly committed to research and adding value for society.

You'll be working in a setting where the environment, research and technology form the basis of our everyday work.

Our purpose is to drive a positive change for the future of people, contributing to a healthy, sustainable and fully-rounded society.

YOUR POSITION:

Specifically, you'll help to carry out research, projects, technological development and technical support. Your main function will be to carry out the work plans laid down by the Lead Researcher or Senior Researcher.

You'll be part of the AZTI Sustainable Fishery Management team, whose tasks include:

Implementing and running simulation models to assess management strategies in the context of mixed fisheries.

Implementing models for assessing species of fishery interest, with a special emphasis on species on which there are limited data.

Developing statistical models of biological processes in the field of modernising fisheries (stock-recruitment models, growth models, etc.).

Statistical analysis of fishery data and environmental data (e.g. GLM, GAM, mixed models, multivariate analysis, machine learning, etc.).

Developing innovative tools and graphics for displaying data.

Using high-performance servers for computational calculation.

YOUR IMPACT:

Your primary function will be to work with the AZTI Sustainable Fisheries Management mathematical modelling team on dynamic population modelling (populations of fishery interest and also marine species of special interest and sensitivity), modelling the dynamics and behaviour of the fleet (with a special emphasis on modelling mixed fisheries), statistical analysis of data, tools and methods for viewing results and risk analysis.

Together with the AZTI Sustainable Fisheries Management mathematical modelling team you'll identify needs for progress towards sustainable ecosystem-based fisheries management, from the standpoint of current fisheries management.

You'll also support the coordination and execution of fisheries management projects and help to draw up new project proposals.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU:

People are fundamental to a knowledge-based organisation like AZTI. We are the ones building the organisation's experience and culture.

That's why at AZTI we put people centre-stage, with all our needs and peculiarities and concerns for our health and well-being. As proof of this we offer you the following, among other things:

You'll be part of a great team of professionals passionate about science, research and the environment for the three years the initial contract lasts. With an Access to the science, technology and innovation system contract.

  • Commitment to equality and diversity.
  • You'll work 1,670 hours a year
  • You'll work concentrated hours from 15th June to 15th September
  • Every Friday of the year you'll work a continuous day (7 hours)

  • You'll benefit from our policy on flexible starting and finishing times
  • You'll be entitled to a calendar month of paid holidays
