Job description

From the Coastal Engineering and Operational Oceanography (ICOO) area, we are looking for a person:

  • Who is responsible for the development of scientific research projects and knowledge transfer related to operational monitoring of oceanic physical conditions and processes (including oceanic transport and the coupling processes between physical and biogeochemical or biological) from multi-platform measurement systems and numerical modeling systems.
  • The activities to be developed are aligned with the maintenance, development, and exploitation of data from the operational observatory of the CAPV, called euskoos.eus and in the work area of the ICOO group, which seeks to be a key local actor, with impact at the European level, in the characterization and study of marine and coastal processes, as well as their variability in a global change context.

The ICOO area is characterized by being a dynamic team that builds its own roadmap by working as a team, collaborating, adapting to new challenges, and stepping out of our comfort zone.     • Leave for birth and care of the child: 21 weeks for the biological mother and another parent. Breastfeeding leave: 1 hour, for 12 months, for both parents.
    • We have the right to reduce working hours for the care of minors or disabled persons until they reach 14 years of age.

Requirements

We would like you to join the team if...

  • You are an Engineer or have a higher degree in Physics, Mathematics, Marine Sciences, Oceanography, Meteorology, and others of a similar nature
  • You have worked on research lines related to Physical Oceanography, Operational Oceanography, Coastal Engineering.
  • You have knowledge in Physical Oceanography, Ocean dynamics, physical-biogeochemical coupling processes, physical-biology, and/or Operational Oceanography
  • You have at least 2 years of consecutive or alternate experience in research projects, in other technological centers, R&D units, universities, either as an employee or as a grantee.
  • You have knowledge of programming languages: Python, Matlab, or similar
  • You are familiar with processing and analyzing physical oceanography data, and the use and exploitation of data from ocean dynamics modeling systems.
  • You have a high level of spoken and written English
  • You have a B1 driver's license

We would love you if...

  • You have a Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Marine Sciences, Oceanography, Meteorology
  • You have published scientific papers related to Physical Oceanography, Coastal marine dynamics, physical-biogeochemical coupling processes, physical-biology, and/or Operational Oceanography.
  • You have knowledge and experience in the use and exploitation of data based on remote observation systems of coastal and ocean dynamics (satellite, HF radar) and autonomous data acquisition systems (gliders, ASVs, drift buoys)
  • You have experience in the application and development of solutions based on numerical models.
  • You have notions of data management, open repositories (GitHub, others), and FAIR principles
  • You have participated in the design or execution of oceanographic campaigns
  • You have knowledge of Lagrangian analysis techniques applied to the study of oceanic transport
  • You have participated in European and international forums (EuroGOOS, ICES, others)
  • You have experience and willingness to search for new externally fundable research projects or lines
  • You have experience in the management and/or development of basic or applied research projects and/or knowledge transfer projects
  • You have experience in supervising undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. students
  • You have presented communications at conferences
  • You have a background in previous research and research grants
  • You have teaching experience and participation or leadership in scientific dissemination and outreach projects
  • You have knowledge of Basque
  • You have knowledge of Spanish
  • You have knowledge of French
  • You have precision, rigor, and quality in project execution and report writing.
  • You are available to travel (attendance at coordination meetings, conferences, working groups, etc.)
